Meet Iskra:
Iskra Perez Salcedo was born in Cuba and came to the US at the age of nine, during the 1980 Mariel Exodus. Education has always played a big part in her life since it was through education that she broke away from poverty levels. After twenty-five years of a successful career in accounting. At the age of 45, she found herself in a deep depression, as most women do at this age, suddenly the life she had built had collapsed. Her International Financial Analysis position was being eliminated by corporate, her children had all moved out of the home and had made their own life’s now. She remembers herself spending more and more time alone. Her health had started to decline as the weight kept piling on. It was then that she decided it was time to take the reins of her life back and reinvent a new path. She started a new healthier lifestyle and has since lost a total of 60lbs. In May of last year, she took a leap of faith and left “Corporate America” to build her own business and is currently the CEO of IPS Accounting Services, Optimizing Growth for Business. Parallel and she took her lifelong hobby of events design and turned it into a side business, Charleston Events and Design, where we believe that all celebrations should be a reflection of your individual personality. This has become a great outlet for her creativity and social engagements. Additionally last year she founded the first Hispanic women entrepreneur’s group in Charleston. Hispanic Women Entrepreneurs of SC is a self-development group founded to help Hispanic women develop their leadership skills as they build and expand their relationships in their community through training, motivation, and collaboration.
