5 Pieces of Content Every Entrepreneur Must Have
The elevator pitch is dead.
Once heralded as the golden ticket for startups who got it right, is now as cool as yogurt shops and Facebook.
Today, you don’t get 75 words. You get 7 — and you better make them good.
It’s all about the HOOK, and trust me, you’re not cool enough not to have one.
What makes a good hook? Look no further than this morning’s headlines. Journalists are masters at grabbing your attention.
Next to Journalists, movie producers are the titans of enticement.
My advice? #1 Work backward, starting with your Founder’s Story. #2 Think Like Netflix.
5 PIECES OF CONTENT EVERY ENTREPRENEUR SHOULD HAVE
05 Founder’s Story
Typically featured on your About page, this is your chance to get it all out. If someone has gotten this far, they’re volunteering to learn extraneous information beyond your highlights — so go ahead and give them your story in the most concise, compelling narrative you can muster.
NETFLIX EQUIVALENT:
Bonus Content, Behind the Scenes, The Making of, etc.
04 Long Form Bio
Have someone other than a spouse or close friend read your Founder’s Story and help you extract the 3 most compelling parts. Make it less than 150 words, and make every word count. You’ll know you’re done when you read it and say, “Wow, I’d like to get to know her!”
NETFLIX EQUIVALENT:
Movie Trailer or Preview (~2 Min.)
03 Short Form Bio
Time to dial up the intrigue! Working from your Long Form Bio, extract one quirk, obsession, or setback you’ve been afraid to share until now.
NETFLIX EQUIVALENT:
Movie Teaser (~1 Min.)
02 Soundbyte
Teach a chorus your audience can sing to. (No one can ever remember the verses!) You might be the most interesting (wo)man in the world, but we can only remember ~2 sentences, so make them memorable.
NETFLIX EQUIVALENT:
1-2 Sentence Description
“In a Southern town in the 1960s, life— and death — are determined by one’s status and respectability. But in the swamp, it’s survival of the fittest.”
01 Hook
Time to be brave…time to be brief. And don’t forget to have a little fun! Ask yourself: What do I stand for?
Netflix Equivalent:
“Don’t Get Mad. Get Everything.” - First Wives Club
”You’ll Never Go in the Water Again.” - Jaws
